Building on our history

For over a century, Marshalls has been manufacturing and supplying superior hard landscaping products for roads, buildings and open spaces.

Whether the scheme is in London or St Lucia, Bristol or Bahrain, Sheffield, Singapore or San Francisco, our formidable history has afforded us an unmatched knowledge of design and logistics, meaning we can give even the most technically complex of projects a beautiful finish.

Founded by Solomon Marshall in the late 1890’s, Marshalls was built on delivering ethical quality to our customers. It didn’t take us long to become established as the

market leader in the UK and following this, we expanded our operations overseas, never shirking the principles our company was founded on.

In fact, we’ve gone from being signatories of the UN Global Compact to having our group marketing director, Chris Harrop, as its UK Chair. And while we’re proud of our award-winning heritage, we will continue to build on this – by giving you better, safer, more sustainable landscapes.

1890 - Solomon Marshall starts to quarry in Southowram, Halifax and in 1904 establishes S. Marshall & Sons Ltd in West Yorkshire.

1947 - A second production site is opened. The following year an engineering division is established. The pioneering seeds of future landscape development are firmly planted.

1964 - Marshalls becomes a plc with shares quoted on the London Stock Exchange.

1985 - Regular exports to France and Benelux begin.

1994 - Dedicated export office established with multi-lingual staff experienced in overseas shipping and international trade.

2004 - Marshalls secures contract to supply 40,000m² of paving materials to Disneyland, Hong Kong.

2009 - More than 2,000 of Marshalls' commercial products now have a Carbon Trust Carbon Reduction Label.

2011 - Marshalls announces a European venture, Marshalls NV.

2012 - A wide range of Marshalls hard landscaping products feature at the London 2012 Olympic Park. Marshalls opens its offices in Xiamen, China to service the Asian market.

2013 - Marshalls Landscape Products America Inc is incorporated. Sales office opens in Manchester, New Hampshire.
